PS. We are aware that there is music in the background of this recording... it comes and goes. It is on the original recording and could not be removed. However, it is almost appropriate, given the topic and you can still understand the talk, (we hope!).

Repent and Be Forgiven
Reverend Ellen gives the second in a four-part series - Taboo Topics of Unity. These are the topics we don’t talk about much in Unity, the ones we left behind in more traditional churches and might have hoped never to hear again. In this series, Rev. Ellen Debenport views the fundamentals of Christianity through a Unity lens and answers how, or even whether, they can be included in our New Thought teachings. Today's talk is Repent and Be Forgiven.
Some of us have been wounded or outraged by the teaching that we are miserable sinners who need forgiveness but will be lucky to get it. In fact, forgiveness is something we do for ourselves. And if you still have a physical body, youre not finished forgiving!Monday, October 12, 2009
Sin and Salvation
In this series, Rev. Ellen Debenport views the fundamentals of Christianity through a Unity lens and answers how, or even whether, they can be included in our New Thought teachings. Today's talk is about Sin and Salvation.
We may no longer think of ourselves as sinners who should seek salvation, but we are living the process nonetheless. We choose sin or salvation throughout every day -- just not in the way you might think.

"The Tao of Willie"
Willie Nelson wrote a little book with many of the same universal principles we teach in Unity. But they are conveyed in classic Willie style and were accompanied with Willie songs. Our guest singer was Neil Mowles, the music director from Unity Church of Dallas.
Rev. Ellen Debenport's talk reviews four of Willie's songs to demonstrate those principles. Neil's singing was not recorded for technical reasons. The music included was legally obtained and excerpts presented only to illustrate the principles discussed.
Be sure to pick up a copy of Willie's book, The Tao of Willie, in our bookstore!

Unity Minister Ellen Debenport begins a four-part series on Prosperity. This first part is entitled "How Much Is Enough?"
Compared to the rest of the world, Americans are living on EasyStreet. But how much comfort is that? How do we know when we have enough? Rev. Ellen talks about the pitfalls of concentrating on lack and comparisons and the advantages of being positive and concentrating on what you really want instead.

Unity Principle #5: "Live The Truth!"
Rev. Ellen Debenport presents Principle Five: What are we here to do? Unity's fifth principles asks us "so, what now?" Knowledge of the first four spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them. What does that look like as we make our way through our day?
Here is what Unity Village Publications says about Rev. Ellen's new book:
A Guide to Practical Spirituality
Ellen Debenport probes the edges of faith in this remarkable book and points the way into the future. The Christian world needs to hear the meassage that she brings for it opens doorways into tomorrow.
--Bishop John Shelby Spong, author of A New Christianity for a New World
The Five Principles was written to provide tools for daily living and suggests answers to the great questions of existence that humans have been asking since the dawn of conscious awareness.
The five principles constitute the core teachings of the Unity spiritual movement founded in 1889 by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore. These same principles reflect the laws of the universe that apply to everyone, all the time. They show up in every major religion and are all reflected in the teachings of Jesus Christ. The author encourages every reader to "work with these principles, test them, apply them to your life, and watch what happens." ELLEN DEBENPORT has served as senior minister to Unity churches in Dallas and Wimberley, Texas. Debenport has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Baylor University and worked as a reporter for United Press International and the Sst. Petersburg Times before becoming a minister. Unity Principle #4: "Aligning With Prayer"
Rev. Ellen Debenport gives her talk on the fourth of Unity's Five Principles, on prayer and meditation. It's one of the ways we remain aware of our Oneness with Source or Spirit. Rev. Ellen says that what most people consider prayer is just elaborate worrying!

Unity Principle #3: "You Create Your Experience"
Principle Three of Unity's five basic principles says we are the creators of our experience.
Now that we know we are divine beings living on earth, we have to learn how to handle all that power! We create our experience with our thoughts and feelings, knowing that whatever we focus on will expand. Its a big responsibility! And why would we ever create anything unpleasant?

"Giving Birth To Faith"
Kate Allen, Ph.D. gave the talk today on how children bond with their mothers and how we can bond with God, a process which is very similar in many ways. She talked about how infants learn to get their physical survival needs met and to trust the physical or psychological mother. At some point in life, we go through a similar process to get other important needs met, including our spiritual needs.

Absolute Living
March 15, 2009
Our new minister, Rev. Ellen Debenport, gave today's talk two weeks before her actual, official start. She starts by telling us that the founders of Unity were "absolutists" or people who believe that spiritual laws are in effect all of the time, absolutely! She talked about living our lives in harmony with those laws, not just when we are in trouble, and having the faith to persevere.
We had a much larger group than usual, a testament to the excitement that is building over her impending full-time tenure!

Dare To Believe... In The Impossible!
Rev. Norma Rosado visits and gives this amazing talk, in part from the top of a 10-foot step ladder, right in the sanctuary. We wish we had video, but you will have to imagine arriving at church to see the ladder right in the middle of the stage, wiht a little pink teddy bear sitting at the top.
The ladder is a metaphor of a way that God gives us to get what we want or need when we are not able in ordinary ways. Enjoy the talk!

Hell In The Hallway
Rev. Ellen was appointed Senior Minister at Unity Church of Dallas in December 2003 after serving four years as an associate minister. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Baylor University. She serves on the board at Unity School of Christianity.
Following her guidance, in January of 2008 Ellen moved outside the church to write, speak, and offer her message to a larger audience. Her new book, based on Unity's Five Principles, is due for publication this spring. Ellen is also the host of "Absolute Living" every Monday at 1 pm on www.unity.fm.
