Expectations and Reality

Our best-laid plans are usually up for grabs, much to our dismay! Just about the time we've got everything worked out, life throws us something unexpected, sometimes better than we've planned; What do we do when we're overwhelmed, confused, knocked off our feet? How do we stop asking, "Why?" and learn to live with the unanswerable? There's always a solution—let's explore together!

Rev Jill Carey
Rev. Jill Carey celebrated 25 years of ministry this year. She has served at churches in Austin and San Angelo, and was honored to be the senior minister of Unity Center, A Church of Positive Prayer in Austin for several years. She served for nine years on the Licensing and Ordination Ministry Team (now renamed) at Unity Village, in which she mentored and monitored the growth and progress of ministerial students through their educational process. Rev. Jill “semi-retired” in 2007 to spend more time with her family, husband Bill and twin sons Alex and David, and to return to a childhood love—riding horses! Although temporarily sidelined by breast cancer, she was happy to return to the pulpit in Wimberley.

I Am Under No Law But God's

How do we live in this world, and not of it?  How do we apply the spiritual principles we learn, in a physical world that seems so solid with challenging circumstances, and with diagnoses that are so authoritative?

Our guest speaker was Neil Feiereisel of Austin. Neil Feiereisel grew up studying Christian Science for more than 20 years.  After a 10 year exploration of all things spiritual, through many books, workshops and classes, Neil and his wife were led to Unity Church of the Hills in 1995 and have "grown up" there spiritually, along with their children.  Neil has served as a leader in the Family Ministry, a Sunday School teacher and on the Board of Trustees.  For the last 17 years, Neil has studied and facilitated A Course in Miracles, bringing him a greater sense of peace as he learns to listen to God's guidance and see the best in his fellow man.

A New Story

Rev Douglas Duerr
During our lifetime, we collect stories that no one else has.  It's those differences that create interest and uniqueness, and makes us who we are.  We often tend to conceal our differences in an effort to fit in, but this also puts our light in the shadow.

Our guest speaker was Rev. Douglas Duerr, an ordained Unity minister, and has recently accepted the call to serve Unity Worldwide Ministries in a greater capacity.

Rev. Doug is also a faculty member with UWSI and has served in Leadership, Education and Pastoral Care at Unity Houston and Co-Minister at Unity Bay Area Houston.  He is a Texas native and resides in Houston.
