Shady Ladies of the Bible: Hagar

Rev. Ellen puts her storytelling talents to work with a five-part series about some of the more colorful women in the Bible. Be there for the love, lust, murder, mayhem, politics, power plays, skullduggery and manipulation that make the Old Testament so much fun to read. You might recognize yourself in some of these characters, but you don’t have to admit it out loud. The first one is Hagar, slave girl and mother of Ishmael, who became father of the Arabs.

One special guest was Melissa Wood Allen. Her Father's Day talk reflected the gifts we all have received from our fathers — our earthly ones, our heavenly one, and the father within. Even painful memories of the imperfect fathers of our childhoods carry hidden gifts for us, if we are willing to forgive and reframe. Charles Fillmore, Unity’s co-founder, spoke of the Father “both immanent and transcendent," and Jesus referred to “Our Father who art in heaven” as well as “the father within.”
