This has become a tradition in our church. You will have the
opportunity to write down and burn up whatever you want to leave behind in the
old year. Then in meditation, receive a word to guide you in 2014 and write it
on a white stone.

So Long, Jesus
A friend says Unity is for people who want to be Buddhist
but aren’t ready to give up Jesus. Or God. Wait, what exactly do we have to
leave behind on this path?

Lamentations
The death and destruction we see on the nightly news are
nothing new for our planet. The Bible is full of pain, grief and suffering. One
whole book is dedicated to “lamentations,” bemoaning the destruction of
Jerusalem 2,500 years ago. What are we positive thinkers to make of life’s real
tragedies?

Do We Belong Here?
We know Jesus was inclusive, conversing with the misfits,
oddballs and pariahs of his day – even women! And he was relentless about
caring for the poor. How are we doing by his standards, individually and as a
church?

Don't Hold Your Breath For 'The Second Coming'
Jesus was called a blasphemer when he linked himself with God, but we all are God, like a vine and its branches. That means the salvation of humanity – and the ongoing creation of the earth – are up to us.

This Story Is Not About Sex

Don't Take it Literally

E J Niles of Fairfax, VA visits today with a provocatively titled talk. Rev. Niles is an expert in "spiral dynamics," so if you have any interest in this subject, you will be interested in her talk!

O My Godness!
Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett |
Podcast Powered By Podbean
Our guest speaker was Rev. Linda Martella-Whitsett, minister at the San Antonio Unity Church for the past 10 years. Her talk was about generations of spiritual students who have avoided a claim that John Lennon was excoriated for, a truth told by Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism - you are Divine! While Linda shares her evolving realizations, she gets you thinking about your own understanding of Divine Nature and presses you to come out of the spiritual closet!

Mind Over Medicine
A pile of legitimate medical studies show without a doubt
how powerfully our thinking affects our health. But what do we do with that
information? Stop going to doctors? Post sticky-notes with healing affirmations
all over the house? Breathe through the pain? Sometimes knowing the power of
our thoughts is just one more thing to worry about.

Nearer Than the Air
Rev. Michael Gott |
Nearer Than the Air -- The famous poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson says God is "closer than breathing, nearer than hands and feet." We do not seek the divine outside ourselves but the spiritual truth revealed in us and as us. Michael Gott, a long-time singer and songwriter, now an ordained Assistant Minister at Unity of Houston, gave the Sunday Talk and performed his song of the same name.
